RABBIT BICYCLE: The Destroyer of Vacations! BEWARE! New Owners are Crooks who Prey on Vacationers!
Beware of riding bicycles that were purchased prior to the new owners at Rabbit Bicycle in Hill City, SD. The new owners have no records of the bikes they own and WILL CALL THE POLICE on people who PURCHASED $300.00 bikes from the previous owners simply because they have a Rabbit Bicycle sticker and no other reason! Way to reward those who shop locally! Go to Trailside RV park to rent bikes in Hill City instead.
While staying on vacation in Hill City, we rented a home that offered bikes for guests use. As we were staying so close to the Mickelson Trail, we were excited to ride them. When we chose to go for a ride, we noticed the bike tires were a bit low so we stopped at Rabbit Bicycle to air up the tires.
While we were there, the owners acted very strange. They looked over the bikes and then went and talked to someone. They did this a couple more times before coming back and accusing us of stealing their bikes. We quickly explained that the bikes were at the rental we were staying at and not ours. We then headed back to the rental which was only a couple of blocks away. The people at Rabbit Bicycle called the Sheriff's Office because we had stolen bikes, supposedly. The Deputy said the bicycle shop didn't have any proof but accused us of stealing these bikes because the bikes have Rabbit Bicycle stickers on them. The Deputy then chose to impound the bikes because we weren't the owners and didn't have proof of purchase, but the bike shop didn't have proof that we stole them either.
Unfortunately, the Deputy didn't have enough room to take both bikes to impound so we had to take one of the bikes to impound. Talk about an inconvenient way to spend your vacation!
After speaking with the manager of the home we stayed at, they were able to find the receipts for these two bikes that were purchased from Rabbit Bicycle on May 31st, 2016 for $635.00! Not a cheap purchase. The manager was told by the Deputy working this case that they were waiting on the bike shop owners to get a list of Vin #'s for bikes they purchased when they took over the business recently. Apparently, the new owners of Rabbit Bicycle accused us of stealing these bikes, even though they didn't know of any bikes that had been stolen, and no way to prove anything as they don't have records of Vin #'s for their bikes.
After 3 days of these bikes sitting at impound, the property manager was told the bike shop owners were never able to prove that these bikes were stolen and the receipt the property manager provided was the only proof so, they didn't actually steal bikes from Rabbit Bicycle. When the property manager spoke with the owner and asked if they would cover the impound fees, the owner claimed they weren't liable because it was reasonable to accuse people of stealing their bikes if they have their sticker on them even though they don't have any records from the previous owners, and rudely hung up on the property manager.
First of all, who accuses someone of stealing something with NO PROOF and no way of obtaining proof? Since when do Deputy's take things away from people with no proof they are at fault? Please tell everyone you know to stay away from Rabbit Bicycle, they are rude and clueless! Not to mention, they'll call the cops on you for being loyal local shoppers.Written on Local Bike Shops
